DCPP response:
1. When recovering FM, do you have station personnel, or contractors perform the work?
Typically, DCPP personnel perform the foreign material retrieval but this is not a hard and fast requirement. We have used contractor personnel depending on the evolution in progress.
2. If station personnel, what departments (groups) make up the retrieval team?
For the spent fuel pool and reactor cavity, the team usually consists of players from the foreign materials exclusion (FME) program, In-Service Inspection (ISI), Radiation Protection and Decon. Other team
participants can include Reactor Engineering and various maintenance groups or vendor personnel.
3. What tools/methods do you use to recover FM in the SFP?
Typically we have used long-handled tools, underwater vacuums (Trinuke to mini-vacuums our ISI group has built specifcally to rescue foreing material) and a number of remotely-operated grabbing tools. Our ISI
group is very adept at preparing tooling tailored to the foreign material being retrieved.
4. What qualifications are required to be part of the retrieval team?
There are no specific qualifications for the retrieval team.
a. Can you provide a copy of the training program qualification card?

Subject: [Pwrrm] Questions for comprehensive benchmark of FM team / training
R.E. Ginna is working to determine the appropriate makeup of a foreign material retrieval team and the tools that should be available to them. We have developed the following questions:
1.
When recovering FM, do you have station personnel, or contractors perform the work?
2.
If station personnel, what departments (groups) make up the retrieval team?
3.
What tools/methods do you use to recover FM in the SFP?
4.
What qualifications are required to be part of the retrieval team?
a.
Can you provide a copy of the training program qualification card?
Your response to any of the questions above will be much appreciated. I understand that a lot of this is a duplicate of what was sent a few weeks ago but we’re really getting pushed to get some more benchmarking information.
Thank you in advance for you time,
-Andy
