Beaver Valley response:

1.  We would prefer not but they are allowed by procedure, it depends on the work in progress at the time.
2.  We specify that Radiation Protection has posted the area to prevent access and permission must be obtained from the on-duty Ops Shift Manager who usually verbally verifies that access is restricted prior to allowing the testing to begin.
3.  No, but we always run the functional check right as we enter Mode 4 so that it's towards the end of the outage and there aren't too many people still accessing containment and the detectors have decayed somewhat.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sent by:        pwrrm@retaqs.com

I’ve got a couple of questions related to the functional check of the incore system during outage.
1.        Do you allow people in containment during the functional test?
2.       If so, what type of barrier do you put in place to prevent inadvertent radiation exposure?
3.       Is there a minimum decay time since the last flux map before this would be allowed?

Thank you in advance for any info you can offer.
