We normally manually trip the reactor between 15 and 20%, will likely be lower since we uprated by more than 8% this cycle. When we shutdown for Hurricane Katrina, we tripped the reactor and turbine at about 10%. Clint, Something related that we saw was a "contamination" of the I-131 due to Mo-99 having a similar energy gamma. In our case, only the I-131 went up, somewhat erratically, and the other iodine isotopes behaved more normally. Although Westinghouse questioned the validity of our measurements, they did not suggest the root of the problem being Mo-99. The way to check for this issue is to perform a recount in ~2 weeks after the sample was pulled. Most of the MO-99 should be gone but a large percent of the I-131 is still left. I'll check back on our cesium to see if it behaved normally but I thought I'd get this other "oddity" out there. With fuel leaks, STP typically first sees an increase in Xe-133. Later, sometimes not until there is a power reduction or trip, we see a definite increase in RCS iodine. We usually don't see cesium in the RCS except following a reactor trip with a leaker; and sometimes we've had trips or large downpowers with leakers and still not seen cesium. I believe we have always seen cesium following the final shutdown and cooldown when there was a leaker in the core. Watts Bar operates at 220 steps on the contolling bank. Waterford is a CE-NSSS and we have defeated it for reactivity management concerns - it is turned off except for following a Reactor Power Cutback when an immediate operator action is to turn it on. Reactor Power Cutback is dropping the lead group or two lead groups on a turbine trip or feedwater pump trip - allows us to remain at a reduced power. Last used in February 2004 for a turbine trip which allowed us to remain at >20% - we were critical that entire cycle although not quite a breaker-to-breaker in the normal sense.
