PWR Core Reload Question

Some questions for the PWR folks: Do you perform in-core shuffle for reloads? If yes ... 1. How much time is normally scheduled for in-core shuffle? 2. How many FA in your core? How many components (burnable poisons, control rods, sources, thimbles, etc.)? 3. Roughly, how many individual assembly or component moves is your normal reload? 4. Do you have an installed mast for components (I've heard that some use a temporary component mast installed each outage)? Thanks! Carl Carl D. Question on SOER 07-01 Reactivity Management

I'm looking for some info on how everyone else is addressing the simulator training recommendation in the subject SOER. Specifically, the bullet in the recommendation says: Reactor Engineers participate in simulator training with shift operating crews at least once per refueling cycle or at least once every two years. Will your site credit Just In Time Training (JITT) opportunities to meet this or just simulator scenarios as part of the Operator Training program? Question to Reactor Engineering Supervisors with respect to RIS 2007-021. What type of time averaged values are used in your calorimetric program (e.g. 1 minute average, 5 minute average, etc)? What type of time averaging is used for either feed flow or steam flow which feeds your calorimetric program? Which of the time average calorimetric values are used to ensure compliance with your licensed thermal power limitations and the intent of RIS 2007-021? Have you made changes to your calorimetric procedures or methods as a result of the RIS? Is "Steady State" in reference to licensed thermal power defined at your plant? Michael J. RIS 2007-021 Compliance

Here are FCS's answers 1) What type of time averaged values are used in your calorimetric program (e.g. 1 minute average, 5 minute average, etc)? FCS uses a 10-minute average as the value used to monitor reactor power and compliance. There are other averages available for trouble-shooting and for information (real time calculate every 30 seconds, 2-minute average, 5-minute average, and others up to 8 hour averages) 2) What type of time averaging is used for either feed flow or steam flow which feeds your calorimetric program? FCS has implemented a 2-minute average for Feedwater and S/G Blowdown flow. 3) Which of the time average calorimetric values are used to ensure compliance with your licensed thermal power limitations and the intent of RIS 2007-021? FCS uses a 10-minute average as the value used to monitor reactor power and compliance. 4) Have you made changes to your calorimetric procedures or methods as a result of the RIS? FCS has interim guidance not to exceed the license limit of 1500 MWth while at steady state conditions, with a target band of 1497-1499 MWth. We also clarified the term steady-state with respect to the rotation of secondary equipment. (we have 3 Main Feed, 3 Condensate and 3 heater drain pumps). The 10-minute average for secondary calorimetric would indicate a ~5-6 MWth increase during the start of the standby feed pump, and then return to normal once the running pump is secured. We have told the SRO/RO's to declare the calculation invalid and rely on NI and delta-T power during this timeframe. (It usually takes 10-12 minutes to settle back out). 5) Is "Steady State" in reference to licensed thermal power defined at your plant? YES J. E. Plan of the Day example

Afternoon everyone... This is a strange request for a great bunch of Nukes but I believe this is an effective tool to locate some e-benchmark information we are in need of. Specifically, Fort Calhoun is requesting example of your "Plan of the Day" and/or "Operations Focus" type reports that are typically discussed with management at the beginning of the day. We are revamping our format and I'm curious if Reactivity Mgmt issues, etc... make the list in addition to Safety and Human Performance Tips, etc... If you can send me an example of your report (and or procedure), it would be much appreciated. RE Supervisors, After the Recent MC& A Inspections by the NRC, and with the ANSI standard for SNM control being in process to be issued and endorsed by the NRC, we at Fort Calhoun Station would like to get a list of HOW you perform the following activities, Remember the ANSI Standard gives us a minimum to meet. I would like to generate a BEST practice list for all to be able to reference. 1) Physical Inventories 2) Fuel Handling process controls (Move sheets, Tag boards, Oversight, Map Updates) 3) Control of Non-Fuel Items (SNM and Non-SNM) within Spent Fuel Pools 4) SNM self assessments, 5) Roles and Responsibilities (RE, QA, Oversight) 6) Reporting to NMMSS 7) Control of Orphaned Fuel pins (and pieces) 8) Definition of Book record and its controls If there are any items I have missed or you think should be on the list, please reply with the addition. Please provide copies of your controlling and implementing procedures, and identify what you think is your best practice. Rod Control Blocking Diode Removal

Surry is planning on implementing Westinghouse TB-00-003-R0 (Stationary/Movable Gripper Blocking Diodes) in our next outages. For plants who have removed blocking diodes from Rod Control, did you see increases in rod drop times? Were they in order with the 10 msec stated in the Tech Bulletin? If not what was the increase?
